About the Programme

Overview

  • A Practice Based Learning Programme: Complete a 3-week summer placement, attending at least 3 shifts per week.

  • Supervised and Supported: Trainees are supernumerary and work under Raising Youth staff supervision, with support adjusted as confidence and competence develop.

  • Build real employability skills: Develop safeguarding awareness, communication, inclusive practice, professionalism and reflective learning.

Eligibility

This programme is suitable for applicants aged 16+ who are currently undertaking a relevant qualification, including childcare, teaching, health and social care, or youth work.

​

What you will learn

Trainees develop capability across five areas:

  1. Safe practice and safeguarding

  2. Child-centred and inclusive practice

  3. Communication and team working

  4. Professional values and behaviours

  5. Reflective learning and development

​

How the Programme Works

The programme combines:

  1. supervised practice in HAF sessions

  2. reflective learning logs

  3. professional discussions

  4. scenario-based learning

  5. workbook and portfolio tasks

  6. group teaching and feedback sessions

​

Teaching Sessions

Trainees can access bitesize sessions including:

  1. Core principles and theories of play

  2. Trauma-informed practice

  3. Children’s learning and development

  4. Health and safety in playwork

  5. Sensory processing in playwork environments

​

Assessment and Award

Assessment is continuous and practice-based, using observation, reflection, portfolio work, professional discussion and supervisor feedback. Successful trainees receive a Raising Youth CIO Certificate of Completion and recognition within their Practice Assessment Document. You will also achieve this Unit Award via AQA.

​

Progression

Completion may support progression into paid opportunities with Raising Youth CIO, subject to safer recruitment, organisational need and satisfactory practice. It does not guarantee paid work.
